Eagles Show They Still Rule In NFC East

There were some concerns early, naturally. Dallas ran the football well and the Eagles missed some opportunities.
But by the time the sun set on the third quarter at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, this much was clear: the Eagles showed on a bitterly cold day that they are still very much the class of the NFC East, beating Dallas 36-10.
It was all very matter of fact. The Eagles defense turned it up a notch in the second half, as they've done most of the season. That Dallas running game that clicked early was shut down to nothing in the third quarter.
And when the Cowboys tried to pass the ball, the Eagles blanketed the Dallas receivers and Sheldon Brown picked off a pass early in the third quarter and the offense took advantage, scored a touchdown, broke a 10-10 tie and the momentum shifted entirely in the direction of the Eagles.
Clinical. Clean. Workmanlike.
It was all of the above for the Eagles. They played a powerful game and wiped out the Cowboys, avenged an Oct. 12 loss, won their eighth straight game, moved to 10-3 and took a two-game lead in the NFC East with three games remaining in the regular season.
Oh, and the Eagles clinched a playoff berth for the fourth consecutive season.
Ho-hum. Just another routine win for an Eagles team that continues to surge at just the right time.
Sunday was an example of just how different the Eagles are now from the team that lost in Dallas. This Eagles team has an offense engineered by a quarterback, Donovan McNabb, who tossed three touchdown passes Sunday and who has total command of the West Coast offense, the tempo of the defenses he's seeing, and tremendous confidence in the pocket. This Eagles team can run the football with diversity -- speed and quickness from Brian Westbrook, slashing power from Correll Buckhalter and a little bit of everything from Duce Staley.
This Eagles team has an offensive line that handles everything from the power and size of Carolina's defensive line to the speed and surge of Dallas' blitz package.
This Eagles team has weapons in the passing game. Todd Pinkston struggled Sunday, but still got open against press coverage. James Thrash made plays. Freddie Mitchell continued his rapid, one-season development. L.J. Smith scored his first career touchdown. Westbrook proved he is so tough to cover and tackle in the open field.
This Eagles team has a defense with the stuff it takes to win a Super Bowl. Yeah, the group must improve against the run, but once again on Sunday the Eagles shored up first-half holes with dominating play in the second half.
Did you see the turnaround against Dallas? Darwin Walker killed Larry Allen in the second half. Carlos Emmons snuffed out everything that came his way. Mark Simoneau played well and shut down the power running game of Troy Hambrick.
And the secondary was air tight. Brilliant. Quincy Carter had nothing to look at down the field.
Give Bill Parcells credit. He wanted to shorten the game and play ball control and try to steal a game on the road. It worked for a half.
But the Eagles were, and are, too much. They're too complete. This Eagles team has the hottest quarterback in the league, maybe the most productive top-to-bottom roster in the conference, and is certainly the team most on a roll in December.
Sunday was beautiful. Sunday was convincing. The Cowboys will be back -- make no mistake, Parcells has the Cowboys on the come -- but the Eagles have the answers right now.
Whatever you throw at them, the Eagles respond the right way. They own the NFC East once again. They've got the two-game lead with three to play. The roll continues, and the Eagles showed how much distance they've put between themselves and Dallas from that day in mid October when the world seemed to crash in around the Eagles to this wonderous day in early December when the Eagles again established why they have Super Bowl aspirations this year.
The Dallas hurdle has been cleared away. The march continues for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles are the class of the NFC, and are deserved of praise and what a TEAM is all about. I like Mcnabb a lot, and I am glad he is doing well. Yes the Cowboys are a team in development, but doing the right things. Definitely not of an Elite level.
The Eagles should represent the NFC in this years Super Bowl.

Guys the Eagles site says it all. "The Cowboys will be back". I think our experience will help us in the long run and as long as everyone stays healthy from here on out we'll be in good shape. Plus we should be getting back a few more d line guys before the end of the year. I like the Birds chances and the momentum going into the playoffs. Though Lou will tell you otherwise.
